Mickey, Scarlett and I are so lucky to welcome Brennan Michael to our family! The happy, hungry little guy has been so much fun to watch and get to know over these past three weeks. I can't even begin to cover all the goings-on of this short time, because every single moment brings a new adventure.
First of all, labor and delivery was quite an experience. The whole story (he said/she said style) is on its way in a follow up post, but the bottom line is that Brennan definitely did things his own way...and knows how to make an entrance.
Once the dude made his way healthily into the world, Mickey and I have been figuring out this whole parenthood thing as a team, one step at a time. Luckily for us, B is a fantastic eater (I was SO nervous about nursing!) and a good sleeper, too, (update: lately he hasn't been quite so stellar at these skills) and Mickey and I are starting to get in a rhythm of meeting his needs.
Scarlett has been getting used to her baby brother, as well; she is protective and sweet with him, often giving him gentle kisses. Once, a dog came up on our deck, and Scarlett stood at the door and barked until he went away, then ran into the bedroom to check on Brennan and give him a quick kiss. It was adorable. When the dude cries, though, it's a different story. Scarlett wants nothing to do with it and retreats to another, quieter room.
The postpartum period was/is tough. I completely underestimated my c-section recovery (post coming soon), and we relied heavily on the help and support of friends and family. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has brought us food and helped with chores. I have no idea how we could have gotten through without you. It was amazing to come home to a straightened house with a stocked fridge and welcome sign and balloons, and all the meals, visiting, laundry folding, and everything else have been just as amazing since.
Now I know what really brought you all here is the hunt for more photos! Don't worry, we have been rather snap happy lately, catching some great family moments already. It's amazing how much the dude has changed and grown in just these short weeks, and we are excited to keep up the adventure with him.

Gearing Up for Baby
Well, our due date has come and gone and I am definitely starting to feel ready. Now that we're on the clock, this is going to be a pineapple and hot sauce kind of week.
Of course, we still have a huge to-do list and plenty of activities to keep us busy, but we are ready for the baby to arrive any time now. We have the basics covered: the car seat is in and balanced, we have a cocoon set up in our room, and, thanks to the amazing generosity of friends and family, we are decked out with baby gear.
I don't know if it is nesting, the pressure of an ever-approaching deadline, or finally being settled in place where we plan to stay for quite a while, but we are doing a pretty good job of getting the condo in order. Mickey has been his usual ball of energy, and has done an amazing job tackling a crazy number of home-improvement tasks: everything from painting to putting together a never ending influx of furniture to baking us homemade bread and granola. In classic new-parent fashion, we have had an especially great time getting the nursery all ready, and we have the photos to prove it!

Despite all Mickey's industriousness, I somehow manage to keep our to-do list growing rather than shrinking. I don't think we will ever be "caught up" again, but that doesn't mean we won't try...or accept help. Friends and family have been warning us about our soon-to-come sleeplessness, so we know that we will be, again, reliant on the generosity of others. Two things that would be super helpful to us are: getting to see you without having to leave our nest and eating. Bringing a meal could kill two birds with one stone! If you love to cook and visit, check out this cool website, Take Them a Meal and see how you can help us eat in the first few weeks of getting used to baby.
